A female teacher accused of having ongoing sexual relations with a high school student at the school where she worked admitted to the facts during the trial but denied the sexual abuse charges.
At the first hearing on the 7th at Daegu District Court Criminal Division 11 (Presiding Judge Lee Jong-gil), the defense attorney for teacher A (32, female) stated, "We fully acknowledge the facts, but we will legally contest whether sexual abuse occurred."
The defense argued that the victim student's sexual self-determination rights were not violated. They also applied to have the victim student testify as a witness. Teacher A is accused of having sexual intercourse or engaging in similar sexual acts 11 times with student B at the high school where she worked between mid-May and June of last year.
The prosecution charged teacher A under the Act on the Protection of Children and Juveniles Against Sexual Abuse, as the victim was under 18, accusing her of child abuse as a worker at a child welfare facility. This case came to light after A’s husband directly reported suspicions that she had an inappropriate relationship with the student and was involved in sexual manipulation.
Police and prosecution investigations found no evidence that teacher A was involved in manipulating student B’s sexual matters. After the case became public, the school held a personnel committee and processed teacher A’s resignation. The next trial for teacher A is scheduled for the 26th.
