Yoon Appoints Jang Hojin as First Vice Foreign Minister... Cho Hyundong as Ambassador to the U.S.

President Yoon Suk-yeol appointed Cho Hyun-dong, First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, as the new Ambassador to the United States, and Jang Ho-jin, Ambassador to Russia, as the new First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs on the 7th.


Lee Do-woon, spokesperson for the Presidential Office, held a briefing at the Yongsan Presidential Office in the afternoon and announced these government personnel changes. The spokesperson explained, "The ambassador nominee will be officially appointed after deliberation at the State Council in accordance with the law, and the vice minister nominee will be appointed together at that time."

Both are career diplomats. Jang Ho-jin, the First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in Diplomacy and received a master's degree in International Politics from the University of Cambridge in the UK. He has served as Director-General of the North American Affairs Bureau and Ambassador to Cambodia. Cho Hyun-dong, the Ambassador to the United States, graduated from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies with a major in Spanish. He has held positions such as Minister-Counselor at the Embassy in the United States and Director of the North Korea Nuclear Diplomacy Planning Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is known that Ambassador Cho recently received agrement (the host country's prior consent for a diplomatic envoy) from the U.S. government.
