Mayor Hong posted a message and photo pledging to reduce single-use items on his personal SNS, and the placard used in the challenge was made by recycling discarded cardboard boxes. He nominated Suwon City, Yongin City, and National Assembly member Kim Young-sun as the next participants.

Changwon Special City was the first local government nationwide to introduce the reusable shared cup called ‘Changwon Doldol E Cup’ to reduce single-use item usage, and has been actively implementing it since July last year, expanding its use to coffee chains and other outlets. Additionally, reusable cup storage boxes have been installed and operated in various meeting rooms held within the city hall.

Along with this, the city is focusing on spreading a culture of practice in daily life, including ▲ banning the use of plastic artificial flowers in parks and cemeteries ▲ using reusable containers in funeral halls ▲ promoting the reuse of transparent PET bottles.

Mayor Hong said, “Using single-use items may be convenient now, but it pollutes the environment and destroys ecosystems, making the burden that future generations must bear even heavier.”
