Happy Alliance-SKIET, Support for Food-Insecure Children in Chungbuk Jeungpyeong

Part of the 'Happy Dookki Project' to Solve Child Hunger with Participation from Businesses, Local Governments, Citizens, and Communities

Happiness Alliance, a social contribution coalition led by SK Group, has partnered with SK IE Technology (hereinafter SKIET), a group company producing secondary battery separators, to establish a support system for children at risk of food insecurity.

On the 6th, Happiness Alliance held a handover ceremony for the "Happy Two Meals Project" with SKIET at the Jeungpyeong County Office in Chungbuk, announcing on the 7th that they will provide lunchboxes to children at risk of food insecurity in Jeungpyeong County.

The Happy Two Meals Project is a program that addresses children's food insecurity sustainably through cooperation among companies, local governments, general citizens, and public-private partnerships in the local community. This time, lunchboxes with side dishes will be delivered to children in the Jeungpyeong County area where the SKIET factory is located, establishing a support system.

The support targets 40 children at risk of food insecurity within Jeungpyeong County. They will receive a total of 15,600 side-dish lunchboxes over one year.

After corporate support, the local government will continue follow-up support by incorporating the recipients into the child meal program.

In this support project, Jeungpyeong County identified children in welfare blind spots who have difficulty securing sufficient meals, and SKIET along with Happiness Alliance member companies donated approximately 84 million KRW for lunchbox manufacturing costs.

The Community Chest of Korea managed the overall fund to ensure that the donated funds are used transparently and efficiently. The social enterprise Happy Lunchbox Cheongju Center was responsible for manufacturing and delivering reusable container lunchboxes, adding significance to coexistence with the local community.

Attendees at the handover ceremony included Lee Jae-young, Jeungpyeong County Governor; Lee Soo-haeng, Head of SKIET Global Production Headquarters; Cho Min-young, Director of Happiness Alliance Secretariat (Happiness Narae); and Park Heung-cheol, Secretary General of the Chungbuk Branch of the Community Chest of Korea.

Director Cho said, “We thank SKIET for their support to help children grow up healthy without food insecurity,” adding, “We will collaborate with various companies to establish support systems for children at risk of food insecurity in more regions.”

SKIET, a subsidiary of SK Innovation’s Information & Electronic Materials business, has continuously collaborated with Happiness Alliance to solve food insecurity issues by supporting lunchboxes for children at risk since 2019, in addition to participating in the Jeungpyeong County Happy Two Meals Project.
