Selected as a Zero-Emission Vehicle Transition Brand Project... Pohang City Expands Eco-Friendly Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Hwanho Park Ultra-Fast Charging Facility.

The Zero-Emission Vehicle Transition Brand Project is conducted by the Ministry of Environment to expand the infrastructure for electric vehicle charging, and Pohang City has been selected for the project for two consecutive years following last year.

In this contest, two projects were selected: ‘Creation of Pohang Secondary Battery Charging Infrastructure Ecosystem’ and ‘Expansion of Charging Infrastructure in Charging-Vulnerable Areas within Pohang City Living Zones.’ Accordingly, a total project cost of 3.54 billion KRW (1.4 billion KRW from the national government, 2.14 billion KRW from private investment) will be invested to build 133 fast and slow chargers at 61 locations including public parking lots and local public institutions, significantly expanding the electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

The city will conduct on-site surveys of the 61 target locations starting in April, begin installing chargers in May, and complete the installation by July. The installed charging facilities will be mandatorily operated and managed by the subsidy project operator for five years.

Mayor Lee Kang-deok stated, “From charger installation to operation and management, private charging operators will carry out the project in a one-stop manner, which will greatly help citizens use electric vehicles,” and added, “We will take the lead in realizing carbon neutrality through continuous expansion of charging infrastructure and eco-friendly vehicle distribution.”

Last year, Pohang City also participated in the support project with two tasks, investing a total project cost of 4.5 billion KRW to build 128 fast and slow chargers at 34 locations including knowledge industry centers.
