Kwangyong Lee, Chairman of Gwangyang City Children's Care Foundation, Makes Generous Donation
POSCO DX Labor Union Donates 4 Million Won to Baegun Scholarship Foundation
Lee Kwang-yong, chairman of the Gwangyang City Childcare Foundation and CEO of Unitec Co., Ltd., donated 50 million KRW to the Gwangyang City Childcare Foundation, and the POSCO DX Labor Union donated 4 million KRW to the Baegun Scholarship Foundation.
On the 5th, Gwangyang City announced that a donation ceremony was held at the Gwangyang Mayor's reception room with about 10 officials including Mayor Jeong In-hwa, Lee Kwang-yong, CEO of Unitec Co., Ltd., and Lee Doo-hyuk, vice chairman of the POSCO DX Labor Union.
Lee Kwang-yong, who took office as the 2nd chairman of the Gwangyang City Childcare Foundation in December last year and is CEO of Unitec Co., Ltd., said, "I decided to donate part of the sales profits back to the local community to support childcare projects," adding, "As chairman, I will actively strive to promote diverse and substantial childcare projects to create 'Gwangyang, a happy city good for raising children.'"
Lee Doo-hyuk, vice chairman of the POSCO DX Labor Union who participated in the donation ceremony, said, "Our union decided to donate scholarship funds to the Baegun Scholarship Foundation, which discovers and nurtures local talents who will lead the future of the region, to contribute even a little," and added, "We hope this will help create a better educational environment for the students, the future of Gwangyang City."
Mayor Jeong In-hwa of Gwangyang City said, "I sincerely thank you for participating in the local community donation culture, and we will use the funds carefully to realize a city good for raising children and to promote educational projects so that local students can nurture bigger dreams and hopes."
Meanwhile, the Gwangyang City Childcare Foundation, launched in June 2017 as the first in the nation through cooperation among citizens, institutions, social organizations, and companies, is promoting differentiated customized specialized childcare services compared to other regions.
This year, the foundation plans to implement 14 projects worth 1.384 billion KRW, including new projects such as one musical instrument per child art education and 24-hour childcare services.
The Baegun Scholarship Foundation, established in 1991, has raised a fund of 23.8 billion KRW through voluntary donations from citizens and companies and has provided scholarships totaling 12.3 billion KRW to 14,154 scholarship recipients by 2022.
