Jeon Do-yeon Starring 'Emergency Declaration' and 'Ilta Scandal' Also Rank High
Director Byun Sung-hyun's 'Gil Bok-soon' reached the top spot in the non-English film category on Netflix just three days after its release. According to Netflix on the 5th, it recorded a cumulative viewing time of 19.61 million hours last week (February 27 to March 2). It surpassed the Indian film 'Perfect Operation' (17.3 million hours) by 2.31 million hours.
'Gil Bok-soon' was most watched in South Korea as well as in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Vietnam. It also ranked in the top 10 in eighty-two countries including Canada, Germany, Spain, Brazil, and New Zealand.
Other works starring Jeon Do-yeon also saw a surge in popularity. The film 'Emergency Declaration' ranked 3rd in the non-English film category with 9.66 million hours viewed, and the drama 'Ilta Scandal' recorded 10.97 million hours, placing 4th in the non-English TV category.
'Gil Bok-soon' is an action film about the legendary hitman Gil Bok-soon in the contract killing industry, who finds herself cornered as she faces conflicts with her teenage daughter and her company. The cast includes Jeon Do-yeon, Sol Kyung-gu, Kim Si-a, Koo Kyo-hwan, Lee Som, and Hwang Jung-min. It was directed by Byun Sung-hyun, known for 'The Merciless' (2017) and 'Kingmaker' (2022). The film attracted attention after being invited to the Special section of the Berlin International Film Festival last February.
