The Uljin County Council of Gyeongbuk hung a large banner 12 meters high on the outer wall of the government building on the 3rd, bearing the slogan "Strongly Condemn Japan's Ambition to Invade Dokdo, Distortion of History in Textbooks, and Discharge of Nuclear Power Plant Contaminated Water!"
The council expressed a strong will to protect Dokdo at the local government level through the banner performance to condemn Japan's immoral and inhumane actions, such as the recent approval of elementary school textbooks containing distorted historical views and the plan to discharge contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant.
The county council also announced that it is considering adopting a resolution to strengthen sovereignty over Dokdo, establishing a local government-level "Dokdo Day," and holding a "Dokdo Protection Rally."
Gong Kyung-sik, chairman of the Uljin County Council, said, "The residents of Uljin will use every possible method to respond to Japan's ambition to invade Dokdo."
