"You Too Can Be a Jokgu King"... Andong-si Deaf Jokgu Class Opens

A Jokgu class for the hearing impaired will be held in Andong, Gyeongbuk.


The Korea Deaf Association Gyeongsangbuk-do Branch Andong City Chapter will open a Jokgu class for the hearing impaired at the Andong Yongsang Jokgu Stadium starting from the 6th. This program is hosted by the Gyeongbuk Disabled Sports Association and supported by Gyeongsangbuk-do.


The Andong City Hearing Impaired Jokgu Class first opened in 2021. Since then, the students have organized the Andong City Deaf Jokgu Club on their own and have been participating in Jokgu competitions held across the country.


In March of this year, they achieved 2nd place in the Disabled Division at the National Jokgu Competition between provinces and cities held in Sacheon, Gyeongnam, under the Korea Sports Council President's Cup.

Kim Hwa-seop, head of the Korea Deaf Association Gyeongbuk Branch Andong City Chapter, said, “We will strive to improve awareness of people with disabilities by participating in local competitions and friendly matches among clubs to expand opportunities for the hearing impaired to participate in sports.”


The Korea Deaf Association Gyeongsangbuk-do Branch Andong City Chapter, a non-profit organization, also operates various sports projects such as running golf classes, supporting bowling clubs, and hosting Jokgu competitions, as well as conducting year-round sign language classes and peer counseling projects to promote the welfare of people with hearing and speech disabilities.
