Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, attended the launch ceremony of the ‘Resident Participation Filial Piety Meal’ Promotion Team held on the afternoon of the 3rd at the 2nd-floor auditorium of Mapo-gu Office.


The event opened with a congratulatory performance of ‘Hollo Arirang’ by singer Seo Yoo-seok, attended by Mayor Park, Lee Jae-yong, the ambassador of the Filial Piety Meal, and over 200 promotion team leaders and members organized from all 16 neighborhoods.


After awarding appointment certificates to the 16 promotion team leaders by the chairman of the Mapo Welfare Foundation, the activity pledges by the promotion team leaders of Gongdeok and Sangam-dong, congratulatory speeches, and commemorative photos were conducted in a warm atmosphere.

In his congratulatory speech, Ambassador Lee Jae-yong said, “I am encouraged that Mayor Park, who possesses charm, determination, and vision, and all the promotion team members are joining the Filial Piety Meal project,” adding, “I will do my best with interest and sincerity for the success of the Filial Piety Meal project.”


Mayor Park Gang-su emphasized that aging is no longer just a family issue, stating, “It is time to start social filial piety so that the elderly do not become exhausted by loneliness due to society’s indifference.”


He continued, “We will cheer and work together toward the success of the Filial Piety Meal project so that the promotion team, which will support this project that makes our society more beautiful, can feel great fulfillment in the future.”


The ‘Filial Piety Meal Promotion Team’ will actively discover key elements of the project such as volunteers, donations, and meal-providing institutions, and promote the project so that elderly people aged 75 and over can be well informed and use the Filial Piety Meal service.

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) announced that it held the regular general meeting of the National Reading Cities Association on the 3rd.


The National Reading Cities Association, chaired by Geumcheon-gu, was established in 2018 to promote reading culture and create a book-reading community society by enhancing exchange and cooperation among book-reading cities nationwide. Twenty-eight local governments across the country are active members.

At the regular general meeting, the 2022 business settlement and 2023 business plan were reviewed and approved. The second part of the seminar featured a lecture by author Choi Seung-pil, author of ‘Study Brain Reading Method,’ an introduction to Geumcheon-gu’s reading programs, and a presentation on the ‘Year of the Book Promotion Team’ projects.


Starting with this regular general meeting, the National Reading Cities Association plans to hold a contest for excellent reading programs targeting member local governments from April.


Additionally, a workshop to strengthen the capabilities of working-level staff will be held in May, and in September, a ‘Book Festival for the Spread of Reading Culture’ will be held as a special project for this year.


Geumcheon-gu Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon said, “The power of reading, which connects the past and the future, is more important than ever to prepare for a new leap forward,” adding, “We will do our best to expand the reading ecosystem in unity with member cities.”




Dongdaemun Photo Club Provides Free Photo Printing Service During Spring Flower Festival

The Dongdaemun Photo Club (President Kwon Oh-hyung) provided free photo printing services to residents who visited the ‘2023 Dongdaemun-gu Spring Flower Festival’ held over two days on the 1st and 2nd.


Many residents visited Jang-an Cherry Blossom Road for the spring flower festival held for the first time in four years, and the photo printing service set up by the Dongdaemun Photo Club in front of the Cherry Blossom Road Book Caf? received great response from residents.

With overwhelming popularity, more than 1,000 residents used the service over two days. The Dongdaemun Photo Club members who volunteered in shifts said, “It was a rewarding and enjoyable time to give meaningful memories to the residents and to practice the club’s slogan, ‘Embracing Love Through Photography.’”


Residents who received prints of their cherished photos stored on their phones happily recalled joyful times as they strolled along the cherry blossom path.


Founded in December 1990, the Dongdaemun Photo Club has devoted itself to the local community through activities such as family photo shoots for low-income households, longevity photo shoots for seniors, and mobile exhibitions. It also contributes to enhancing the cultural and artistic sensibilities of residents throughout the four seasons by exhibiting seasonal photographic works in the outdoor galleries along Jang-an Cherry Blossom Road and Baebongsan Dullegil.

On the First Day of Operation, Mayor Kim Personally Transformed into Hongbanjang to Resolve Residents’ Complaints



Seoul’s Gangseo-gu (Mayor Kim Tae-woo) announced that it will operate the ‘OK! Hongbanjang Mobile Civil Complaint Squad’ from this month to resolve living inconveniences for vulnerable groups.


Gangseo-gu is home to approximately 22,000 basic livelihood security recipients, 28,300 disabled persons, and 24,000 elderly living alone, among many other vulnerable groups.


For vulnerable groups, even minor inconveniences such as broken lights or clogged pipes often remain unresolved due to economic burdens or physical difficulties.


Mayor Kim Tae-woo, who has strived for happy companionship with socially vulnerable groups, pledged and launched this project to solve such problems.


The ‘OK! Hongbanjang Mobile Civil Complaint Squad’ is a visiting home repair service that addresses residential inconveniences difficult for vulnerable groups to resolve alone.

The squad handles various living complaints such as fluorescent light and outlet replacement, electrical wiring inspection, replacement of washbasin and sink parts, unclogging pipes, and screen repairs.


Eligible recipients include socially vulnerable groups such as basic livelihood security recipients, lower-income groups, severely disabled persons, single-parent families, elderly living alone, grandparent-grandchild families, and households recognized by the district office as vulnerable, including elderly households aged 65 or older, single-woman households, and those living in multi-family or multi-unit villas.


The service is provided up to three times per household annually, and for socially vulnerable groups, the service including material costs is completely free. Other vulnerable households recognized by the district office only need to cover material costs. However, vacant houses, business sites, officetels, and apartments with more than 150 households are excluded. Also, extensive repairs requiring high expertise and complaints with safety accident risks are not supported.


Applications can be made by calling the Living Complaint Handling Call Center or through the Gangseo-gu Office website under ‘Integrated Reservation - Events/Culture - Online Application.’

Guro-gu conducted a cleanup activity on Dorimcheon Stream on the morning of the 3rd to raise citizens’ awareness of environmental conservation and create a clean stream.


Mayor Moon Heon-il, together with the Carbon Neutral Citizen Practice Group, removed trash from the Dorimcheon Stream embankment and levee and collected floating debris in the stream.

Employees of Jongno-gu (Mayor Jeong Moon-heon) worked diligently on the morning of the 3rd to remove embers and extinguish remaining fires caused by the wildfire that occurred the previous day on Inwangsan Mountain.


At 6:30 a.m. on the 3rd, Jongno-gu deployed 360 employees to completely extinguish the wildfire by clearing remaining embers.





Jungnang-gu Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center Holds Launch Ceremony for Reliable ‘Resident Support Group’

Launch and Appointment of ‘Resident Support Group’ Composed of 45 Local Residents

Expected to Perform Various Roles Including Program Planning, Promotion, and Operation Support



The Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center in Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is expected to accelerate its operations with strong support from residents. The district announced that it held the launch ceremony for the ‘Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center Resident Support Group’ on the afternoon of March 31.


The ‘Resident Support Group’ (hereafter Support Group), composed of 45 local residents, was established to reflect residents’ opinions, enhance the center’s educational programs, and revitalize center operations.


The launch ceremony held at 2:20 p.m. on March 31 at the Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center included sharing the roles of the Support Group, awarding appointment certificates, greetings by Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi, election of executives, and organization of the Support Group.

Starting with the launch ceremony, the Support Group will contribute in various fields such as program planning and promotion, program operation, and external cooperation at the Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center.


The Support Group is divided into the Planning and Promotion Support Team, Program Support Team, and External Cooperation Support Team. The Planning and Promotion Support Team conducts program monitoring and surveys to reflect feedback in program development and planning stages and supplements new and existing programs. They also promote programs using SNS. The Program Support Team and External Cooperation Support Team respectively handle safety management, participant guidance, and leading during educational and tour program operations to ensure smooth program progress.


Jungnang-gu Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi said, “With today’s launch ceremony of the Resident Support Group, we will leap forward as the ‘Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center created together with residents’ and strive to provide more diverse educational programs that residents want and need,” adding, “We will continue to spare no support for education, including educational expenses, to advance as the best public education city.”


Since its opening in 2021, the Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center has operated various educational programs covering all generations from children to seniors, receiving great response from residents. To meet the high demand for educational programs, the district is also promoting the construction of the 2nd Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center in the Myeonmok-dong area, scheduled for completion in 2025.
