Prime Minister's Reading of Yoon's Memorial Speech: "Government Will Do Its Best to Restore Honor of April 3 Victims"

Prime Minister Han Deok-su Reads President Yoon Seok-yeol's Memorial Address

President Yoon Suk-yeol stated through a memorial address read by Prime Minister Han Duck-soo at the ‘4·3 Victims Memorial Ceremony’ held at Jeju 4·3 Peace Park on the 3rd, “The government will do its best to restore the honor of the 4·3 victims and their bereaved families.”


President Yoon also emphasized, “Honoring the souls of the innocent 4·3 victims and comforting the pain of their bereaved families together with the people is a natural duty of a liberal democratic country that pursues freedom and human rights.”

He added that the true way to honor the victims and their families is to create a Republic of Korea where freedom and human rights flourish.


He continued, “We will do our utmost to elevate the values of freedom and human rights that you have cherished and to open a new future for Jeju together with you.”


President Yoon also stressed, “We will transform Jeju into an elegant cultural tourism region that harmonizes nature, culture, and history, a gem-like place where pristine nature and cutting-edge technology coexist.”


He added, “The government will spare no support to help Jeju become a refined cultural tourism destination where not only Koreans but also people from around the world can broaden their horizons.”


President Yoon particularly stated, “This is the era of content. We will actively support top-level digital companies such as IT firms and semiconductor design companies to thrive in Jeju, and attract global talents to Jeju.”


President Yoon attended the Jeju 4·3 memorial ceremony last year as president-elect before his inauguration but did not attend this year’s ceremony. The presidential office explained in a briefing on the 2nd that regarding President Yoon’s absence, “He attended last year as president-elect, and there was consideration about whether it is appropriate to attend the same event every year. It was judged that it is appropriate for the Prime Minister to attend this year.”
