Air Busan has taken the initiative to reduce single-use items on board to directly practice environmental protection and achieve sustainable growth.
On the 3rd, Air Busan announced that on flights departing from Busan and Incheon to Bangkok, duty-free purchases on board will be sold in reusable upcycle bags instead of the previously provided single-use plastic bags.
This initiative is part of the 'Eco Flight' campaign, designed to reduce the use of plastics and single-use items on board.
The provided upcycle bags are made by washing and redesigning bed linen covers and towel covers used in hotels, and are given together when purchasing alcoholic beverages among the in-flight duty-free products.
The product was created in collaboration with 'Eco in Blank,' a social enterprise based in Busan. Eco in Blank is an eco-friendly upcycling company that has won the Red Dot Award, one of the world's top three design awards, and last year produced upcycled keyrings from discarded flight attendant bags and surfwear.
Additionally, the Bangkok-bound flight operating that day will use an A321neo aircraft equipped with a high-efficiency new engine, minimizing environmental harm generated during flight operations.
This aircraft is an eco-friendly model that reduces carbon emissions by 5,000 tons annually compared to the first-generation A321 aircraft and significantly improves noise levels.
An Air Busan official stated, “We are implementing environmental protection activities on board starting with small steps,” and added, “We will continue to carry out activities for environmental protection, including replacing aircraft with new models and developing eco-friendly in-flight services.”
