Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is launching comprehensive administrative support to ensure the successful hosting of the Gwangju Biennale, Asia's largest art festival.
According to Buk-gu on the 2nd, to support the successful hosting of the 14th Gwangju Biennale, which will be held from the 7th to the 9th at the Biennale exhibition hall and other venues, they will actively promote 20 tasks across three areas: ▲independent projects ▲linked projects ▲support projects.
Since this is an international event centered around exhibition halls located within the district, the aim is to realize a more mature cultural and artistic city, Buk-gu, through voluntary participation of residents and to connect the city brand to the world.
As independent projects, they will operate the ‘Art Bus,’ a mobile tourism experience program linking major transportation hubs in Gwangju, various cultural and artistic performances, themed busking, spring flower pot exhibitions, and promotional centers, while boosting the festival atmosphere through independent events involving 28 neighborhoods within the district.
Additionally, the ‘Media Facade’ performance, which has become a representative cultural brand of Buk-gu, will be held during the festival period to beautifully adorn the Biennale exhibition hall, and the ‘Soso Market,’ involving the self-support project group, will be operated as a linked project.
In particular, holders of Biennale admission tickets will receive a 50% discount on planned performances at the Buk-gu Cultural Center, and a 10-25% discount when purchasing self-support products from the Soso Market and products from social economy enterprises. Furthermore, a 10% discount on bills will be offered at 106 designated restaurants near the Biennale.
Information on the discounted restaurants and social economy enterprises can be found on the Buk-gu Office website and via the Biennale Foundation QR codes.
Buk-gu will also carry out support projects such as cleaning up illegal advertisements and street vendors around the event venues, traffic and cleaning measures, and public restroom disinfection to create a pleasant environment for Biennale visitors.
Moon In, Mayor of Buk-gu, said, “The Gwangju Biennale is the largest event that introduces Gwangju to the world as a cultural and artistic city and is a symbol of dignified cultural pride for our Buk-gu residents. We will actively support the 14th Gwangju Biennale, held after the recovery from COVID-19, to be more successful than ever with the enthusiastic interest and participation of our residents.”
