About 1,500 Pohang citizens, including children and youth, related organizations, native and forestry groups, companies, and the Forest Cooperative, participated in this event, planting over 5,000 trees such as Ipap trees, cherry trees, and mugunghwa to create a street forest path.

Before the ceremony, performances by the Yeonil Family Culture Pungmul Group, Yeonil Elementary School recorder ensemble, and Ocheon Jeil Kindergarten choir captivated the eyes and ears of the participating citizens.

Following this, local youth explained the "techniques of tree planting" on stage and urged the older generation to "create a clean and green city for future generations," marking the start of the tree planting event.

The tree planting site was planned to become a dense forest path by integrating with the existing street trees of large king oak trees and mixing canopy trees such as Ipap and cherry trees with understory trees like cornelian cherry, mugunghwa, and pine, as well as shrubs like red holly.

In particular, the planting area is expected to become a premium urban street forest path by reducing fine dust generated from nearby industrial complexes and roadsides and connecting the Yeonil-eup urban area with the outskirts forest.

After the tree planting event, participating citizens were given saplings of fruit trees such as persimmon and peach, as well as saplings of wild aralia, hyacinths, marguerites, and kalanchoe, allowing them to directly plant and nurture flowers and trees, thereby contributing to making Pohang a better place to live.

Deputy Mayor Kim Nam-il said, "We will strive to plant more trees to respond to the climate crisis and achieve carbon neutrality, making Pohang a sustainable green ecological city with a promising future."
