The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Narcotics Crime Investigation Unit requested the Ministry of Justice on the 31st to impose the travel ban on Jeon. Jeon was released 36 hours after being questioned by the police immediately upon his return on the 29th.

The police, who were considering applying for an arrest warrant, decided to release him and conduct an investigation without detention, taking into account that Jeon admitted to the charges and voluntarily returned. However, to prevent him from leaving the country until the investigation is complete, this measure was taken.

According to the Immigration Control Act, the Minister of Justice can prohibit departure for up to one month if it is deemed inappropriate for a suspect to leave the country during a criminal investigation. Travel bans are usually extended monthly.

Immediately after his release, he went down to Gwangju, took a day of rest, and has been meeting with victims of the May 18 incident to apologize and carry out related schedules.

Earlier, while staying in New York from the 13th of this month, Jeon exposed allegations of slush funds involving his family through social media (SNS), YouTube, and media interviews, and admitted that he and his acquaintances used drugs. On the morning of the 17th, during a YouTube live broadcast, he appeared to use drugs on air and was subsequently taken to a hospital.
