Gyeonggi Province announced on the 31st that the application period for the strategic crop direct payment project by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has been extended from the original end of March to April 20.
The strategic crop direct payment project supports farmers with direct payments when cultivating winter or summer crops, which are existing paddy field utilization direct payment (double cropping) target crops, to improve food self-sufficiency, stabilize rice supply and demand, increase paddy field utilization, and promote income stability for farmers.
Winter crops include food and forage crops such as hulless barley, rice barley, wheat, rye, oats, alfalfa, and green barley, which can be harvested by the end of June. The project targets farmland actually used for paddy rice farming of 0.1 hectares or more based on agricultural management entity registration information.
When cultivating food crops or forage crops in winter, 500,000 KRW per hectare is paid; when cultivating paddy field soybeans or glutinous rice in summer, 1,000,000 KRW is paid; and when cultivating forage crops, 4,300,000 KRW is paid.
If winter wheat or forage crops are cultivated and summer crops such as paddy field soybeans or glutinous rice are double-cropped, an additional incentive of 1,000,000 KRW can be received.
