The 4th Korea-Indonesia Foreign Ministers Joint Committee Meeting
Strengthening Cooperation Based on Complementary Industrial Structures

Foreign Minister Park Jin emphasized on the 31st that "South Korea and Indonesia, which share the core values of democracy and market economy, are natural partners in advancing freedom, peace, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region."


Minister Park made this remark during the 4th Joint Foreign Ministers' Meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building with Retno Marsudi, Indonesia's Foreign Minister, stating that the bilateral relationship has comprehensively developed over the years.

He said, "Congratulations on Indonesia's successful chairmanship of the Group of Twenty (G20) last year, and its chairmanship of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) and MIKTA, the consultative group of five middle powers, this year. We are proud to support your initiatives in this year marking the 50th anniversary of Korea-Indonesia diplomatic relations."


He also mentioned that last year’s meetings between President Yoon Suk-yeol and President Joko Widodo in South Korea and Indonesia respectively marked a milestone in bilateral relations, reiterating President Yoon’s remarks that supply chain linkages should be strengthened and economic networks developed based on the complementary industrial structures of the two countries.


Furthermore, Minister Park expressed gratitude for Minister Retno’s in-person attendance at the 2nd Democracy Summit Indo-Pacific regional meeting held under Korea’s auspices the previous day.


Minister Retno expressed appreciation for Minister Park’s congratulations on Indonesia’s chairmanship of the G20 last year and ASEAN and MIKTA this year. She responded, "I believe today’s meeting will provide an opportunity to discuss efforts and ways to strengthen bilateral relations. Indonesia is ready to further enhance the bilateral relationship."
