Busan City is hosting the ‘2023 Busan Citizens' Bicycle Competition’ to boost its campaign for the World Expo Busan bid.
Busan City announced that the ‘2023 Busan Citizens' Bicycle Competition’ will be held on April 1st at 9 a.m. at Hwamyung Ecological Park Folk Playground.
The Busan Citizens' Bicycle Competition is a local cycling festival hosted and organized by the Busan Sports Council and sponsored by Busan City, where families and cycling clubs ride together to enjoy the nature along the Nakdong River and fully embrace spring.
Now in its 12th year, this event will see 1,700 participants of all ages complete a non-competitive course along the Nakdong River trail.
The course is divided into two: a 24 km ‘family participation’ course (500 participants) starting from Hwamyung Ecological Park Folk Playground, turning back at Hopogyo Bridge and Mulgeum Water Intake Station, and a 45 km ‘club participation’ course (1,200 participants) turning back at Yangsan Wondong Gayajin Temple.
Just before the start, a performance praying for the successful bid of the 2030 Busan World Expo will be held to boost the spirit of the event and support the World Expo Busan campaign.
A Busan City official stated, “To prepare for any emergencies during the event, emergency medical staff and safety management personnel will be stationed throughout the course, cooperating with the police to ensure the safest bicycle competition ever. We will strive to make Busan a ‘paradise of community sports’ based on cycling and the promotion of everyday sports.”
