Busan City has carried out structural adjustments, including consolidation, to operate its affiliated public institutions more efficiently.

Busan City (Mayor Park Hyung-jun) explained on the 31st that it will strengthen research functions by combining similar or overlapping functions into one and establishing an integrated research system.

Since the Public Institution Innovation Direction for the 8th Elected Term of Busan City was announced by the Public Institution Pledge Promotion Planning Group on August 1 last year, Busan City has been promoting efficiency measures to resolve inefficiencies caused by similar and overlapping functions of public institutions.

On December 28 last year, the city revised and promulgated the "Busan Metropolitan City Ordinance for the Consolidation and Functional Adjustment of Public Institutions" to adjust the functions of public institutions.

The recently completed "Unification of City Administration Research Functions" mainly involves transferring the city administration research functions of the Busan Welfare Development Institute and the Busan Women and Family Development Institute to the Busan Institute, in order to establish an integrated research system for overall city administration.

To this end, the city actively promoted consensus building through communication and consultation centered on the TF, preparation for work transfer, and personnel allocation.

The Busan Welfare Development Institute and the Busan Women and Family Development Institute, whose research functions are being transferred, will be reorganized into the Busan Social Service Institute and the Busan Women, Family and Lifelong Education Promotion Institute, respectively, while the Busan Institute will perform the research functions previously carried out by the two institutions.

Busan City analyzed that the integration of research functions will have effects such as ▲ promoting work efficiency by eliminating overlapping research functions ▲ establishing an integrated research system and strengthening research capabilities ▲ resolving research blind spots and advancing specialized fields.

It aims to accelerate the creation of a happy city for citizens by expanding and strengthening research in the field of citizen life stability for the creation of a happy community in Busan.

Lee Sung-kwon, Deputy Mayor for Economy of Busan City and co-head of the Public Institution Innovation Joint Team, said, "We have completed the blueprint for public sector innovation through the unification of city administration research functions," and added, "We plan to continuously monitor and manage to ensure the smooth promotion of institutional efficiency."
