Line 2 Train Window Stolen Causing Service Disruption Loss
Seoul Metro Says "High Possibility of Crime by 'Cheoldodeokhu'"
A window of a Seoul Subway Line 2 train was stolen. The train is currently unable to operate due to the missing window.
According to Seoul Metro on the 30th, around 12:50 a.m. on the 25th, someone tore off a window from car 4 (car number 2490) of train set 290 on Line 2.
Officials from the metro believe that a railway enthusiast, driven by a strong passion for trains, committed the act. They have requested cooperation from related railway fan clubs and officially filed a theft report at Sindorim Police Substation that afternoon.
The metro posted an urgent notice on railway and public transportation enthusiast community forums stating, "We are looking for the person who stole the window."
The suspect is described as an average-built male between 170 and 180 cm tall with short sporty hair. At the time of the crime, he was wearing a black training jacket with white stripes, dark-colored pants, dark-toned sneakers with white soles, and carrying a dark-colored bag.
He removed the upper window on the side of the priority seating area while the train was in operation, placed it into a prepared bag, and stole it. This window can be slightly opened inward. After the act, he got off at Sindorim Station.
The train car missing the window is currently out of service for safety reasons and is stored at Gunja Train Depot. Due to the disruption in train operations, the metro reported suffering significant losses.
The metro stated, "We have secured footage from inside the train car and from Sindorim Station CCTV. If the window is returned to Gunja Depot by the 31st, leniency will be considered. However, if it is not returned, the CCTV footage will be submitted to the police for investigation. We will also seek compensation for damages caused by the suspension of operations."
The metro sent the same notice to railway-related enthusiast communities such as Rayplus, Enrail, and SBM. Responses to the notices have included comments like "This is absurd," "I can only sigh," and "As an enthusiast, I am ashamed."
