The charge of conspiracy to commit insurrection is not included
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Taewon] The prosecution has requested an arrest warrant for former Defense Security Command Commander Cho Hyun-cheon, who drafted a martial law review document during the 2017 impeachment phase of former President Park Geun-hye.
The Criminal Division 5 of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office filed the arrest warrant against former Commander Cho on charges including interfering in the 2016 election of the chairman of the civilian conservative group Federation of Korean Industries and mobilizing Defense Security Command agents to hold rallies supporting former President Park Geun-hye.
Earlier, the prosecution arrested former Commander Cho at Incheon Airport and transferred him to the prosecutors' office, where he underwent intensive questioning for two consecutive days.
However, the charge of conspiring to incite rebellion by drafting the martial law document and reporting it to superiors was not included in this arrest warrant request.
The substantive hearing for former Commander Cho's arrest warrant at the court is expected to be held as early as today.
