Support for Stable Entry of Prospective Young Farmers
The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Gyeongsang National University held the ‘Future Talent Young Farmers Forum’ on the 30th at Duse Hall to promote the development of local agricultural industries.
This forum was co-hosted with the Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Council and was initiated by Kim Gu-yeon, a member of the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Marine Affairs Committee. It was organized to exchange information on the settlement and growth of university students and young farmers, who are the key players in advancing local agriculture, and to gather diverse opinions to realize a ‘young rural community’ and promote the development of local agricultural industries.
The forum was attended by Kim Min-cheol, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Gyeongsang National University; Shim Won-bo, Associate Dean of Research; Professor Kim Yoon-sik; Kim Gu-yeon, member of the Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Council; Jung Seung-min, President of the Gyeongsangnam-do 4-H Federation; Kang Seung-je, Director of Agricultural Policy at the Agricultural Policy Bureau of Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Government; related officials; students; and over 120 young farmers.
The event began with a presentation by President Jung on ‘Management Cases of Young Farmers,’ followed by an introduction to ‘Gyeongnam Youth Agricultural Policies’ by Director Kang.
In particular, a panel composed of experts from various fields shared diverse thoughts on Gyeongnam agriculture and young farmers, fresh ideas from the MZ generation, and on-site difficulties, creating a time of empathy that helped bridge gaps among participants.
Dean Kim said, “This was a great opportunity for our students to directly experience the voices from the field in the agricultural life sciences industry. By cooperating with various institutions to promote the entry of talented individuals into the agricultural life sciences sector, I hope this will become a starting point for the development of our regional industry.”
Assemblyman Kim stated, “Since young farmers are the ones who will overcome the crisis of rural population decline and aging and create the future of the region, we will strive to further diversify and specialize projects that support the influx and settlement of young farmers and help those already settled to grow, in accordance with field demands.”
