750 Million Overseas Koreans Present Various Opinions on Reverse Immigration Policy and More
The Korea Real Estate Federation and the Overseas Korean Forum held a policy discussion on finding solutions for the era of population cliff on the 29th at the Irum Center Irum Hall.
The event was hosted and organized by the Korea Real Estate Federation and the Overseas Korean Forum, with participation from over 80 organizations related to overseas Koreans, multiculturalism, real estate, academia, and media, and more than 150 attendees from various sectors. The event featured an opening address by Ji Taeyong, President of the Korea Real Estate Federation, a welcome speech by Cho Rongje, Chairman of the Overseas Korean Forum, followed by congratulatory remarks from Hong Moonpyo (Member of the National Assembly, People Power Party), Choi Chunsik (Member of the National Assembly, People Power Party), and Yang Seungjo, former Governor of Chungnam Province.
In his keynote presentation, President Ji Taeyong stated that the solution to the population cliff era lies in establishing settlement cities for overseas Koreans who are reverse immigrants. The policy discussion reached a consensus that the practical solution to the crisis of local extinction caused by low birth rates and population decline encompassing multicultural generations, as well as the alternative for balanced national development, is the establishment of settlement cities.
Participants in the discussion included Sunhwa Yoon (Adjunct Professor, Department of Real Estate, Hanyang University / Ph.D. in Real Estate), Jiyoon Jeong (Chair Professor, Immigration and Multicultural Studies, Graduate School of Industry, Myongji University / Ph.D. in Industrial Management Engineering), Junho Hwang (Chairman, Smart Construction Exchange Association / Ph.D. in Convergence Technology Management), Dongseong Kim (Director, Industry-Academia Research Institute, Songwon University / Ph.D. in Business Real Estate), Jongrye Geum (Chairman, Economic Science and Technology Committee, 8th Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly / Ph.D. in Public Administration), Jeongnam Kim (President, Digital Saemaul Association / Ph.D. in Education), and Diana Kim (Real Estate Attorney, New York and New Jersey, USA / Ph.D. in Law), who proposed realistic population growth measures and solutions for balanced national development.
The discussion mainly focused on demographic economic discourse such as "people are the economy" and "without people, what culture can exist," with some advocating that "solving regional economic issues lies in implementing a reverse immigration policy for 7.5 million overseas Koreans."
On this day, ▲Dr. Sunhwa Yoon emphasized the perspectives of overseas real estate organizations and experts on settlement cities and the reactions of foreigners domestically and abroad ▲Dr. Jiyoon Jeong highlighted the necessity of establishing residential centers for multicultural families and foreign workers' education and communication ▲Dr. Junho Hwang designed an international convergence K-settlement city as a new settlement for reverse immigrant multicultural families and a global cultural village connecting the world with a 365-festival city concept ▲Dr. Dongseong Kim proposed customized agricultural cities suited to regional characteristics for return-to-farming and rural migration ▲Dr. Jongrye Geum warned that the population cliff is scarier than a nuclear bomb ▲Dr. Jeongnam Kim discussed local responses to regional extinction caused by population decline from the perspective of native Koreans ▲Dr. Diana Kim emphasized the local reactions of Korean Americans in the Americas toward reverse immigration settlement cities, the demand from Koreans considering reverse immigration to Korea, and their needs.
