Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Yoon Byung-tae) announced on the 30th that it recently held the first meeting since the launch of the RE100 Energy Policy Advisory Committee at the city hall’s Ihwa Room to review this year’s energy sector policies, research directions, and major event plans.

The committee, launched in December last year, consists of 17 top experts from various fields including energy and carbon neutrality, physics and chemistry, tourism and planning, and agriculture.

The members discussed the active role of the committee in establishing the “Naju City Regional Energy Plan Study” reflecting the contents of the “Naju City Energy Basic Ordinance” and the “Ordinance on Fostering Renewable Energy Industry and Resident Participation in Naju City,” which were enacted through the 250th Naju City Council extraordinary session.

They also exchanged opinions on linking energy policies with the planned “NEXT Jeonnam, Naju Imagination Idea Tone” event scheduled for the second half of this year, centered around Bitgaram Innovation City and the cooperation between Naju City and Dongshin University.

Furthermore, to proactively respond to government energy policies, the advisory committee pledged to hold meetings regularly and to spare no insight and wisdom from experts in each field to discover energy policies that are specialized for the region and feasible.

Mayor Yoon Byung-tae said in his greeting, “Along with the enactment of the Naju City Energy Basic Ordinance, institutional measures have been established to support the fostering of the renewable energy industry following the passage of the ‘Special Act on Activation of Distributed Energy’ by the National Assembly’s Industry, Trade, and Small and Medium Enterprises Committee.”

He added, “Naju City and the advisory committee will work hand in hand to attract RE100 companies and discover feasible energy policies reflecting regional characteristics, aiming to complete a future advanced science city where companies and young people want to come.”

Co-chairman Moon Seung-il emphasized, “It seems the time when the roles of RE100 Energy Policy Advisory Committee members are most needed has arrived,” and stressed, “Active interest and support from the members are necessary so that the regional energy plan study and energy-related events in the second half of the year can be linked with Naju City’s RE100 energy policy.”

“RE100,” which has emerged as a major issue in the industry, is an abbreviation for “Renewable Energy 100%,” a voluntary global renewable energy campaign in which companies supply 100% of the electricity they need from renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power.

The city is discussing fostering new energy industries through attracting RE100 demand and supply companies, revitalizing the Energy Valley, developing resident-experienced policies, and plans for hosting international energy events centered on the advisory committee.
