Sunchang-gun Hosts Philippine National Soft Tennis Team for Training Camp

Suncheon-gun, Jeonbuk Province is aiming to become a global hub for soft tennis by hosting the Philippine national soft tennis team for their training camp.

According to the county on the 30th, the Philippine national soft tennis team, consisting of 18 members including 4 coaches and 14 players, will begin a 13-day training session from today until the 11th of next month at the Suncheon-gun Public Stadium soft tennis courts to strengthen their skills.

The Philippine team previously visited Suncheon-gun twice for training camps in 2018 and 2022. Following a sports exchange agreement signed last October between the county and the Philippine Soft Tennis Association, they decided to visit again this year to exchange personnel and technical information for mutual development.

The purpose of the training is to observe the ongoing ‘44th Chairman’s Soft Tennis Tournament’ held in Suncheon during the training period, aiming to acquire advanced Korean sports techniques and achieve good results in international competitions such as the Southeast Asian Games (SEA GAMES) and the Hangzhou Asian Games.

The county plans to support the Philippine team’s dedicated training by leveraging the talent donation of coaches from the Jeollabuk-do Soft Tennis Association and soft tennis teams from elementary, middle, and high schools in Suncheon-gun. Additionally, former athletes from the Sports Marketing Team will be mobilized to provide one-on-one partner training to transfer technical know-how.

County Governor Choi Young-il said, “I believe training camps are the most effective way to boost the local economy,” and added, “We will do our best to help Suncheon-gun rise as a central location for overseas training camps by hosting the Philippine soft tennis team.”

Meanwhile, with the start of the 8th local government administration, the county is making every effort to revitalize the local economy through global training camps.

Not only the Philippines but also the Indonesian national soft tennis team is currently negotiating training camps with Suncheon-gun. The Sports Marketing Team is actively working to attract training camps by directly visiting international sports events and contacting overseas sports teams.
