As the list of successful candidates for the Hyundai Motor Group skilled worker (production) open recruitment document screening has been released, interest in the selection criteria is also rising. Unlike office or research positions, opinions suggest that abilities as a skilled worker and work diligence were evaluated more highly than general 'specs.'


On the 29th, posts sharing the results of Hyundai Motor production worker document screening flooded social networking services (SNS) and online communities. Earlier, after Hyundai Motor announced the production worker open recruitment on the 2nd, more than 300,000 netizens flocked to portal sites.


From the announcement of document screening results, the first hurdle in the open recruitment exam, applicants' attention was focused. On that day, Hyundai Motor's recruitment portal experienced such heavy traffic that hundreds of people were put on waiting lines, creating a remarkable scene.

One applicant who passed the document screening shared the acceptance email they received. The content stated, "You have passed the mobility technical personnel recruitment document screening and have been selected for the first interview (aptitude test)." It also mentioned, "We will provide guidance on the next screening during the first week of April." Comments from netizens followed, such as "I'm jealous," "I was eliminated early," and "I'll have to live vicariously through this."


Some asked about the 'selection criteria.' Mr. A, a current public official, said, "General 'specs' like university or TOEIC scores don't seem to work. This isn't a typical office job recruitment, right?" One netizen claimed, "Looking at those who passed around me, it seems that industrial engineer certificates are highly valued."


Among the applicants who certified their document screening success, many held three or more nationally recognized technical certificates. Most were related to industrial safety, hazardous materials handling, and mechanical maintenance.

Opinions also emphasized the importance of 'diligence.' One applicant said, "Looking at those who passed, it seems the order of importance is high school attendance, junior college GPA, awards, work experience, and certificates." They added, "A GPA over 3.5 is fine, but perfect attendance or no absences for three years is essential."


They continued, "Work experience or awards are best if related to skill competitions. Two to three certificates that can be practically used on the factory floor are sufficient," emphasizing, "Specs really don't matter much in production job recruitment. They look for someone they can trust to handle the work once deployed on-site."


Hyundai Motor production jobs are highly coveted among domestic workers, often called 'Kingsan-jik (King + production job).' This is due to high salaries and various welfare benefits. According to Hyundai Motor's 2022 business report, the average annual salary per employee that year was 105 million KRW. Additionally, retirement age is guaranteed at 60, with the possibility of an additional one-year contract after retirement.


Document submissions were accepted over 11 days from the 2nd to the 12th. Even then, heavy traffic caused 'waiting for connection' notifications to appear on Hyundai Motor's recruitment portal, reflecting high interest.


Meanwhile, those who pass the document screening will undergo the first interview, aptitude test, second interview, and physical examination from April through the end of June. The final successful candidates will be announced in July.
