Disappointed in Girlfriend Active in 'Yeocho Cafe'... "We Eventually Broke Up," Says Man

Controversy Among Netizens Over Breakup Story
"Extreme" vs "Overly Treated Like Ilbe"

A story about a breakup caused by a girlfriend’s activity in a women’s community has become a hot topic.

On the 30th, a post titled “There are many women who don’t use Yeoseong Sidae, right..?” was uploaded on a workplace community, drawing attention. The author, Mr. A, shared, “I was very disappointed to find out my girlfriend was active on ‘Yeoseong Sidae.’ Would she accept it if I, as a man, were a member of Ilbe?”

Mr. A is a man critical of feminism, and gender conflict appeared as a reason for the breakup with his girlfriend. He said that his girlfriend was active in the female-majority community ‘Yeoseong Sidae’ and added, “I once said ‘I hate feminists; they seem like mentally ill people,’ and she was very upset. Even when I tried to talk neutrally, she got angry and said she had fought about this with her ex-boyfriend too.”

He also revealed, “Actually, I endured it out of love even though I knew she was on Yeoseong Sidae,” and confessed that his girlfriend had shared her sexual experiences with members on ‘Yeoseong Sidae’ in the past. He said, “Those posts were from more than five years ago, so I thought it was youthful recklessness and endured it,” but “still, she told me we didn’t communicate well and weren’t compatible, and she broke up with me.”

Mr. A wrote, “I don’t want to break up, but if it happens, I hope the next person won’t be someone who uses communities like Yeoseong Sidae. But the membership is huge.”

He added, “When I first saw my girlfriend using Yeoseong Sidae, my heart sank, and it sank again when I saw her posts. She’s really a good person, but her ideology is scary. I heard it’s brainwashing and gaslighting. If you use Yeoseong Sidae, aren’t you falling for that?”

Among netizens who read this post, contrasting opinions emerged. On one side, some said, “Even among women, I’m a bit wary of those who use Yeoseong Sidae. It’s extreme, so I didn’t like it,” “Wake up. It’s beyond saving,” and “Breaking up now is a blessing from ancestors.”

On the other hand, others argued against Mr. A, saying, “It’s not about whether she uses Yeoseong Sidae or not; you just got dumped,” “Yeoseong Sidae is a normal community different from Ilbe. Should women be treated like Ilbe members just for gathering and talking?” and “You should reflect on your own unconditional criticism of feminism.”
