Jeon Du-hwan's grandson Woo-won on the verge of release... 5·18 groups "fully prepared"

Woo Won, the grandson of the late Jeon Du-hwan, who was arrested on drug use charges after arriving in Korea and expressing his intention to apologize to the families of the Gwangju 5·18 Democratization Movement victims, is expected to be released this afternoon, prompting 5·18 organizations to prepare accordingly.

The 5·18 Memorial Foundation and the three May organizations (the Bereaved Families Association, the Injured Association, and the Meritorious Persons Association) have sent Woo Won a phone number via SNS message that is available 24 hours a day. Since he was arrested immediately upon arrival, no reply has been received yet, and it is reported that they currently do not have a direct contact number for him.

The organizations are reportedly ready to warmly welcome him if he visits Gwangju as a gesture of apology. However, they have stated that they will not go to Seoul to greet him or provide a vehicle.

The organizations are preparing a gathering where 5·18 bereaved families and victims can come together as soon as Woo arrives in Gwangju, as well as a memorial at the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery.

An official from the organizations said, "Woo Won, who has been under investigation for two days, is unlikely to contact anyone immediately upon his release tonight. However, we have taken measures to be ready to respond whenever he does reach out."

Meanwhile, Woo arrived at Incheon International Airport around 6 a.m. on the 28th and was immediately arrested by the police. He stated, "I want to cooperate fully with the investigation and apologize to the victims of the 5·18 Democratization Movement after the investigation."
