Park Byung-gyu, Gwangsan District Mayor of Gwangju, "Future Car National Industrial Complex Expected to Drastically Develop the Region"

Park Byeong-gyu, mayor of Gwangsan District in Gwangju Metropolitan City, said about the establishment of the ‘Future Car National Industrial Complex,’ “It is expected to bring a groundbreaking change and development that will completely transform the map of Gwangsan in the future.”


On the 29th, Gwangju held the ‘Gwangju Future Car Vision Declaration Ceremony’ at the Gwangju Real Content Cube, announcing the significance of attracting the national industrial complex and strategies for fostering the future car industry.

The Future Car National Industrial Complex in Gwangju, announced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 15th, will be developed on a scale of 1.02 million pyeong in the Samdo-dong and Bonryang-dong areas of Gwangsan District. From this year until 2030, a cluster concentrating on core future car parts industries such as materials, components, and equipment will be established, with the total project cost reaching approximately 670 billion KRW.


In his presentation on the day, Gwangju Mayor Kang Ki-jung presented the economic effects of the future car national industrial complex, citing an employment inducement effect of 270,237 people and a production inducement effect of 10.0255 trillion KRW.


This means new jobs will be created equivalent to more than half of the entire population of Gwangsan District. Along with this, various infrastructure developments linked to the national industrial complex and the attraction of numerous future car-related companies are also expected to have a significant economic impact on Gwangsan District.


Above all, with the attraction of the future car national industrial complex, existing automotive industry hubs such as Jingok Industrial Complex and Bitgreen Industrial Complex, which houses Gwangju Global Motors, a Gwangju-type job model, will play important roles and functions in the leap to ‘Gwangju as a leading future car city,’ positively influencing the local economy of Gwangsan District.


Mayor Park of Gwangsan District emphasized, “Attracting the future car national industrial complex is a great blessing not only for Gwangju but also for Gwangsan District. It is a ‘historic event’ that completely changes the entire topography of Gwangsan.”


He added, “Gwangsan has now become the central stage for Gwangju to rise as a global leading city in the future car industry. We will actively cooperate with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Gwangju City, and the local community, dedicating all our capabilities and efforts to ensure that the new seeds of Gwangju’s future bear abundant fruit.”
