Government Official Ethics Committee, Regular Asset Disclosure of High-Ranking Officials
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choo Kyung-ho's assets increased by more than 360 million KRW in one year. This is due to the rise in apartment prices.
According to the 2023 regular asset disclosure report for high-ranking public officials, released on the 30th by the Government Ethics Committee through the official gazette, Deputy Prime Minister Choo's assets amounted to 4,457,270,000 KRW, an increase of 362,890,000 KRW from the previous 4,094,380,000 KRW.
Deputy Prime Minister Choo jointly owns an apartment with a floor area of 106.8㎡ in Dogok-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, together with his spouse. The official appraisal price rose from 2,215,000,000 KRW to 2,524,000,000 KRW, an increase of 309,000,000 KRW. The rise in apartment prices led to the increase in Deputy Prime Minister Choo's assets.
In addition, Deputy Prime Minister Choo owns deposits worth 1,658,470,000 KRW under his and his spouse's names, and stocks and bonds worth 65,840,000 KRW under his spouse's name.
First Vice Minister Bang Ki-seon reported the highest assets among senior officials at the Ministry of Economy and Finance. His assets increased by 58,660,000 KRW to 4,758,980,000 KRW. He owns an apartment in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu (1,806,000,000 KRW) and a neighborhood living facility in Samseong-dong under his spouse's name (land 253.90㎡, building 222.75㎡, 2,810,080,000 KRW).
Second Vice Minister Choi Sang-dae's assets decreased by 38,280,000 KRW from 1,885,420,000 KRW to 1,847,140,000 KRW. This was due to the decrease in the official appraisal price of his apartment in Sejong from 740,000,000 KRW to 726,000,000 KRW.
Budget Office Director Kim Wan-seop experienced the largest decrease in assets among the nine Ministry of Economy and Finance officials subject to this disclosure. His assets dropped by 286,800,000 KRW from 2,987,550,000 KRW to 2,070,000,000 KRW. Although the values of his apartments in Irwon-dong, Gangnam-gu (1,570,000,000 KRW) and Jiphyeon-dong, Sejong City (480,000,000 KRW) remained unchanged, the value of securities decreased from 337,990,000 KRW to 3,800,000 KRW due to the blind trust and sale of unlisted stocks.
Additionally, Deputy Director Lee Hyung-il reported assets of 1,895,740,000 KRW, Tax Policy Bureau Chief Ko Kwang-hyo reported 2,239,580,000 KRW, Planning and Coordination Office Chief Hong Du-seon reported 1,692,210,000 KRW, International Economic Management Officer Kim Sung-wook reported 1,097,390,000 KRW, and Fiscal Management Officer Kim Yoon-sang reported 3,814,200,000 KRW.
The average assets of these senior officials at the Ministry of Economy and Finance increased by 32,960,000 KRW from 2,689,620,000 KRW to 2,722,580,000 KRW.
