It was revealed on the 28th that Jeong Mo (22), the son of lawyer Jeong Sun-shin who was dismissed from the position of head of the National Investigation Headquarters due to his child's school violence issue, was deducted 2 points from his College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) score by Seoul National University in the 2020 academic year regular admissions.
Seoul National University stated in data submitted to Kang Deuk-gu, a member of the National Assembly's Education Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea, "Considering the disciplinary level for Jeong, we decided on the maximum deduction and deducted 2 points from the CSAT score."
According to Seoul National University's internal review criteria, students who receive disciplinary actions of level 8 (transfer) or level 9 (expulsion) due to school violence or similar issues are given the lowest grade in document evaluation or have 2 points deducted from their CSAT scores. Jeong received a level 8 disciplinary action from the School Violence Countermeasure Autonomous Committee, resulting in a transfer. Among the 10 applicants who were reviewed for 'internal and external disciplinary actions' in the 2020 regular admissions, Jeong was the only student to receive the most severe penalty of a 2-point deduction from the CSAT score.
Among Seoul National University entrants over the past five years who were deducted points in regular admissions due to school violence disciplinary actions, the number of successful candidates was ▲0 out of 5 in 2019 ▲1 out of 6 in 2021 ▲0 out of 3 in 2022 ▲0 out of 1 in 2023. In early admissions, the numbers were ▲0 out of 2 in 2019 ▲0 out of 2 in 2020 ▲1 out of 2 in 2022. There were no deductions in 2021 and 2023.
