Chahwang Yangchon Village and Saengbiryang Sangneung Village
4 Billion KRW Invested in Residential Environment Improvement and More
Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam, has been selected for the 'Saetteul Village Contest Project' for five consecutive years.
According to the county on the 29th, Yangchon Village in Chahwang-myeon and Sangneung Village in Saengbiryang-myeon were selected in the government's 'Vulnerable Area Living Conditions Improvement Project (Saetteul Village Project)' contest, securing a project budget of 4 billion KRW (70% national funds, 30% local funds).
With this, Sancheong-gun has been selected for the Saetteul Village Project for five consecutive years, following the improvement project in Ojeon District, Obu-myeon in 2019 (2.3 billion KRW), Noeun Village in Saengcho-myeon and Banghwa Village in Saengbiryang-myeon in 2020 (4 billion KRW), Cheokji Village in Sancheong-eup and Gusa Village in Danseong-myeon in 2021 (3.5 billion KRW), and Naejeong Village in Sancheong-eup last year (1.8 billion KRW).
The villages selected as project sites this year, Yangchon Village in Chahwang-myeon and Sangneung Village in Saengbiryang-myeon, have about 70% of their houses aged over 30 years.
In particular, these are vulnerable areas where the residential environment is poor and cramped, and the steep alleys make it difficult to respond to fires or emergencies.
Following this project selection, 4 billion KRW will be invested from April this year until December 2026 to improve living conditions in Yangchon Village, Chahwang-myeon, and Sangneung Village, Saengbiryang-myeon.
Yangchon Village in Chahwang-myeon plans to carry out housing maintenance such as stone wall and slope reinforcement, guardrail and security facility maintenance, demolition of vacant houses, and slate roof removal and improvement to establish living and safety infrastructure.
Additionally, village environment improvement and local capacity-building projects such as repairing deteriorated and old fences will also be implemented.
Sangneung Village in Saengbiryang-myeon will also expand living and safety infrastructure such as anti-slip pavement and security facility maintenance, and undertake housing maintenance including demolition of vacant houses and house repairs.
Along with this, village environment improvement and human care projects will be conducted.
Project funding fully supports public facilities and demolition of vacant houses and houses, while private facility maintenance such as roof improvement and house repairs requires a self-payment of 30-50% according to support standards.
The county explained that the selection for this Saetteul Village Project not only resolves long-standing demands of local residents but also reduces the financial burden on Sancheong-gun.
A county official said, "The reason we have been continuously selected for the Saetteul Village Contest Project for five years until this year is thanks to the active participation of residents in each village," adding, "We will continue to improve residents' living environments and increase satisfaction with village communities through smooth project implementation by establishing project plans that actively reflect the voices of local residents."
