According to the county on the 28th, the Vulnerable Area Living Conditions Improvement Project has been implemented since 2015 to support areas with poor living conditions, such as those with a high proportion of vulnerable groups including basic livelihood security recipients, and where over 40% of houses are over 30 years old or have slate roofs. The project aims to expand living, hygiene, and safety infrastructure, improve residential environments, and strengthen resident capabilities.

In the two villages, Shinhong in Bukpyeong and Dunjoo in Gyegok, a total of 4.2 billion KRW (3 billion KRW in national funds) will be invested over four years starting in 2023 to carry out infrastructure expansion projects such as fence, village road, and drainage maintenance, as well as improvements to traditional toilets. Residential environment improvement projects will also be conducted, including vacant house maintenance, slate roof upgrades, and repairs of aging houses.

Additionally, human care and resident capacity-building projects to revitalize the community will be promoted.

Haenam-gun formed a resident promotion committee and actively collected residents’ opinions from the preparation stage of the competition to reflect them in the project plan. Through close consultations with related departments and multiple expert advisories, the county prepared a solid application, achieving the great success of being selected for the competition project for four consecutive years after passing the first evaluation by Jeollanam-do and the second evaluation by the National Balanced Development Committee.

Meanwhile, Haenam-gun successfully completed three district projects starting with Hwachang Village in Hwasan selected in 2015, Hyanggyo in Hyeonsan in 2016, and Daesan in Okcheon in 2017. The county is steadily advancing projects such as basic plan establishment and groundbreaking for five districts including Gwandong and Yerak in Munnye in Hwasan in 2020, Sanlim in Samsan and Dongri in Munnye in 2021, and Yongdong in Okcheon in 2022.

County Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan stated, “Creating living infrastructure to breathe new life into our rural areas is a very important issue. It is very meaningful that we have been selected for the competition project for four consecutive years through public-private cooperation.” He added, “We will actively promote not only the Vulnerable Area Living Conditions Improvement Project but also resident-led rural development projects to make rural areas better places to live.”
