Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, signed an honorary wildfire monitoring agreement with Yeongyang Post Office (General Director Seok Jeong-gi) at Yeongyang County Office on the 28th to establish a rapid wildfire reporting system.

Since 86% of Yeongyang-gun's area is covered by forests and the terrain is rugged, it is difficult to extinguish wildfires when they occur. Therefore, forest monitors and specialized wildfire suppression teams are deployed along major hiking trails and roadsides to thoroughly prevent fires. However, it remains challenging to monitor wildfire prevention in remote mountain valley villages.
Through this agreement, mail carriers who traverse every corner of agricultural and mountainous villages daily will be appointed as honorary monitors. They will install wildfire caution flags on work vehicles and distribute promotional materials to engage in wildfire prevention activities.
County Governor Oh Do-chang stated, “We will do our best to protect the lives and property of residents by strengthening wildfire prevention activities and establish close cooperative relationships with institutions and organizations to protect valuable forest resources.”
