Gimhae City Adds 504 More Electric Vehicle Chargers

Selected for the 2023 Zero-Emission Vehicle Transition Brand Project Award

Gimhae City in Gyeongnam has been selected as a recipient of the 2023 Zero-Emission Vehicle Transition Brand Project organized by the Ministry of Environment.

The city announced that it formed a consortium with EasyCharger Co., Ltd., an electric vehicle charging operator, and applied for the project under the theme "Charge freely anywhere within 10 minutes," and was selected.

According to the city, the Zero-Emission Vehicle Transition Brand Project is designed to support various types of projects (models) targeting local governments, charging operators, and others to link the supply of electric vehicles and the establishment of charging infrastructure tailored to regional characteristics.

With this selection, the city explained that it secured 750 million KRW each from national funds and private capital, totaling 1.5 billion KRW, enabling the construction of charging infrastructure without any city budget investment.

They plan to install 504 electric vehicle chargers, including four 100kW rapid chargers.

In April, the city will sign the "2023 Zero-Emission Vehicle Transition Brand Project Agreement" with private operators and complete the construction of charging infrastructure by August after detailed design and site usage agreements.

A city official stated, "We will effectively respond to the rapidly increasing charging demand and contribute to the expansion of electric vehicle adoption," adding, "We expect to provide citizens with high-quality charging services through fast charging speeds and high accessibility to charging stations."

Lee Yong-gyu, Director of the Climate Response Division, said, "To prepare for an increase in eco-friendly vehicle buyers for carbon neutrality in the transportation sector, fine dust reduction, and air quality improvement, we will do our best to establish charging infrastructure annually."
