Comprehensive dining company bhc Group announced on the 28th that Kim Ji-wan has been selected as this year's first 'bhc Hero.'

The protagonist of bhc Group's first Hero campaign of 2023 is Kim Ji-wan, who resides in Suwon City. On the 7th, Kim became a citizen hero by stopping a truck that was driving on the highway in Bibong, Hwaseong City, Gyeonggi Province, whose driver had lost consciousness, thereby saving the truck driver and preventing further casualties.

At the time, the truck driver had lost consciousness due to overwork and was driving on the highway while swerving, repeatedly hitting the central divider and traveling about 1 km. Kim, who was driving behind the truck and found the situation suspicious, confirmed through the window that the driver had lost consciousness and blocked the truck's front with his own car to stop it. Afterwards, he checked the driver's condition and contacted the police and ambulance, preventing what could have turned into a major accident.

In a broadcast interview, Kim said, "If the driver had pressed the accelerator while unconscious, the truck could have suddenly accelerated, and since I thought there is a golden time for rescuing the driver, I first stopped the truck with my car." He added, "Since I also work in the automotive safety field, this incident was personally very meaningful to me."

A bhc Group official said, "We sincerely thank Kim for his courageous decision without hesitation in a dangerous situation that could have put himself at risk, saving a precious life." He added, "bhc Group will continue to support and encourage heroes active throughout society and will take the lead in spreading a culture of sharing and helping each other by widely publicizing their good deeds."

The truck driver rescued by Kim was reported to have recovered after being transported to the hospital. It was also reported that the manufacturer compensated Kim's vehicle, which blocked the truck, as a token of gratitude for the righteous act.

Meanwhile, bhc Chicken's bhc Hero is a social contribution activity that has been ongoing since 2017 under the theme "You are a true hero," recognizing citizens who perform righteous deeds in our society.
