On the 29th at 7:30 a.m., Busan City will hold the ‘Vehicle Odd-Even Day (Voluntary)? X4 Traffic Week Promotion Campaign’ near Seomyeon Intersection to create a safe and smooth traffic environment, increase citizen participation, and spread enthusiasm for attracting the Expo.

Busan City, Transportation Corporation, City Bus Association, and Civic Groups Launch Promotional Campaign for 'Autonomous Vehicle Odd-Even License Plate System' Participation Busan City Hall.

This campaign is organized to showcase Busan’s clean and safe traffic environment and high civic awareness of traffic order to the on-site inspection team of the International Bureau of Expositions (BIE) scheduled for early April, differentiating Busan from competing cities by demonstrating the passionate support of its citizens and promoting Busan’s image as a public transport-centered city worthy of being a candidate host city.

The campaign is carried out through collaboration among 16 districts and counties, traffic-related organizations, and citizens. Approximately 290 citizens, including participants from Busan City, ▲Busan Metropolitan Police Agency ▲Busan Transportation Corporation ▲Busan Bus Association ▲Green Mothers’ Association and Green Women’s Federation ▲Meritorious Kind Drivers Association ▲Model Drivers Association ▲Saemaul Traffic Volunteer Corps, will take part. Each of the 16 districts and counties will also select their own locations to conduct ‘Expo Traffic Week’ promotion campaigns, including voluntary participation in the vehicle odd-even day system with local volunteer groups.

The city has designated the on-site inspection period as ‘Expo Traffic Week’ and plans to actively promote voluntary citizen participation in the four major prohibitions: ① no honking ② no traffic signal violations ③ no illegal parking ④ no speeding. Additionally, vehicle operation will be restricted based on the last digit of license plates: vehicles with odd numbers can operate on odd-numbered days (5th, 7th), and those with even numbers on even-numbered days (4th, 6th).

On the 15th, the city held a business agreement and working-level meeting among related organizations to create a safe traffic environment. A ‘Rapid Response Team’ composed of Busan City, the Police Agency, Fire Headquarters, and the Transport Maintenance Business Association has been formed and is operating to prevent secondary accidents and support smooth vehicle flow in case of emergencies (traffic accidents, vehicle breakdowns, etc.) along the on-site inspection routes. This joint public-private effort is establishing a seamless traffic safety network.

Jeong Im-su, Director of the Busan City Transportation Bureau, stated, “By conducting the citizen-centered ‘Expo Traffic Week’ campaign in preparation for the International Bureau of Expositions (BIE) on-site inspection, we expect to enhance the image of Busan’s clean and safe traffic environment and demonstrate Busan as a prepared city for the 2030 Busan World Expo bid.”
