Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital is attracting attention for its activities to help marginalized groups.

On the 28th, Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital announced that it recently delivered 3 million won in support funds for the ‘One Meal Sharing for the Homeless’ to the Catholic Gwangju Social Welfare Association of the Catholic Archdiocese of Gwangju at the hospital's 5th-floor reception room.

This initiative was taken to help homeless people who have difficulty securing a single meal.

The delivered support funds will be used to produce 40 lunch boxes daily for 30 days, which will be distributed to vulnerable homeless people in the Gwangju area.

Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital and the Catholic Archdiocese of Gwangju signed a ‘Business Agreement for Supporting Marginalized Neighbors’ last January and have been carrying out various projects to help marginalized and impoverished neighbors.

Father Lee Bong-moon, president of the Catholic Gwangju Social Welfare Association, said, “Since free meal centers are hardly operated in the evening, homeless people are having a very hard time,” adding, “We will continue sharing activities for marginalized groups. We ask for continued support in the future.”

Jung Yong-yeon, director of Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital, said, “We understand that homeless people have many difficulties securing a meal,” and added, “The hospital will take responsibility and work together to help vulnerable patients recover their health and achieve happiness through economic support.”

Meanwhile, the Catholic Gwangju Social Welfare Association under the Catholic Archdiocese of Gwangju continues its homeless care meal box support project, providing warm evening lunch boxes through an outreach method that directly visits the field amid increasing difficulties faced by socially vulnerable groups such as the homeless, aiming to improve nutritional status and help them return to society by linking them to various services through counseling.
