Gwangju Shinsegae Eye Clinic announced on the 28th that it has introduced the presbyopia correction lens, Altiplus, developed by the world-renowned intraocular lens manufacturer OPHTEC, for the first time in the Honam region.
OPHTEC's technology has received approvals such as CE (Conformit? Europ?enne mark) and KFDA (Korea Food and Drug Administration).
The Altiplus lens is a presbyopia correction intraocular lens that can improve near, intermediate, and distance vision while preserving the cornea and natural lens. It is highly regarded for its stability and performance, using the iris fixation method of Altiflex, which has been performed for over 30 years, and the CTF optic, which has been used in tens of thousands of surgeries.
Altiplus is a lens implantation surgery for presbyopia patients without cataracts, simultaneously correcting vision and treating presbyopia.
Without removing the natural lens, a specially designed presbyopia correction lens is implanted in front of the iris, preserving the natural lens and cornea. It can correct from +2 diopters of hyperopia to -15 diopters of high myopia. Notably, unlike other diffractive lenses, it applies the refractive CTF patented technology, significantly reducing light scattering.
The advantage of Altiplus is that it can be reverted to its original state after surgery. Since the natural lens and cornea are preserved, if the surgical outcome is unsatisfactory, only the lens can be removed to return to the pre-surgery condition.
Moreover, preserving the cornea lowers the risk of side effects such as dry eye syndrome, and surgery can be selectively applied to one or both eyes, reducing the financial burden.
Altiplus lens implantation surgery can only be performed by doctors selected by the Dutch company OPHTEC. Therefore, it is important to undergo precise examinations such as anterior chamber depth and corneal endothelial cell count at an eye clinic specializing in Altiplus lens implantation before surgery.
Chief Director Kim Jaebong said, “Altiplus lenses can be an alternative for those who do not have cataracts but want to treat presbyopia, those worried about side effects from multifocal cataract surgery, those who have already undergone cataract surgery with monofocal lenses, or those burdened by cataract surgery costs. Since the surgery is more difficult than general lens implantation, accurate diagnosis and precise examination followed by consultation with experienced medical staff about the current eye condition are essential.”
