Dragonfly Successfully Concludes KIMES 2023... "First Domestic Game Company"

Dragonfly became the first domestic game company to step into the medical device market, which is gaining attention as a next-generation growth engine industry.

The first-generation game developer Dragonfly announced on the 28th that it successfully concluded the ‘2023 International Medical Devices & Hospital Equipment Exhibition’.

KIMES, the largest medical device exhibition in Korea, is an event designed to provide opportunities to experience next-generation medical devices and healthcare products responding to the medical market. The 38th exhibition, held over four days from the 23rd at COEX in Seoul, featured the theme ‘Better Life, Better Future’ and saw the participation of over 1,300 companies, showcasing more than 35,000 medical device products. The exhibition highlighted trends in advanced medical industries such as digital healthcare, AI, and wearables.

Through its participation in this KIMES exhibition, Dragonfly presented a prototype version of its digital therapeutic device under development, ‘Guardians DTx (tentative name),’ attracting significant interest from numerous visitors including leading domestic companies and medical industry professionals who experienced the product firsthand. A ‘prototype’ refers to a preliminary model created focusing on core functions to verify and improve performance before full-scale commercialization.

In addition to booth participation, Dragonfly also delivered a corporate seminar titled ‘Discussing the Future of the Medical AI Industry,’ where it presented on game-based digital therapeutic devices and overall market trends. The presenter was Yong-Ik Jeong, an advisor in Dragonfly’s digital therapeutic device division and a former director of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.

‘Guardians DTx’ is a game-type digital therapeutic device targeting children aged 7 to 12 with ADHD. Currently, Dragonfly has completed the development of the prototype by researching mechanisms of action, designing therapeutic technology, and adding algorithms for individual difficulty adjustment. The company is continuously improving the product by adding supplementary elements such as level design and rewards and is preparing to conduct exploratory clinical trials.

A Dragonfly representative stated, “Dragonfly’s participation in KIMES, which had no prior history of game developers participating, garnered much attention and positive response. As a game company, Dragonfly will actively pursue the commercialization of the game-type digital therapeutic device ‘Guardians DTx’ to realize ‘game therapy’.”

They added, “We plan to actively commence exploratory clinical trials in the first half of this year, aiming to complete them within the year.”
