SK Inc. C&C held the '2023 Happy IT Scholarship Award Ceremony' on the 28th for young people with disabilities aspiring to become IT professionals.
At the event, SK C&C ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) officer Kim Seong-han and other executives, along with representatives from the Korea Disabled Rehabilitation Association, attended to encourage and congratulate the students selected as scholarship recipients.
This year, a total of 36 Happy IT scholars, including 32 university students and 4 graduate students, will receive scholarships totaling 113 million KRW.
The Happy IT Scholarship fund was raised through a company-wide online and offline donation campaign over the past year, with participation from 947 employees. Additionally, donations from reward points earned through the company's social value practice program in daily life (Haenggarae) contributed to the scholarship fund.
Since 2005, the 'SK C&C Happy IT Scholarship,' now in its 19th year, has been sustained by the voluntary participation of SK C&C employees with the aim of strengthening the IT capabilities of young people with disabilities and supporting their stable entry into society.
The total amount of scholarships sponsored by SK C&C to date reaches 1.52 billion KRW, and the total number of students who have received the Happy IT Scholarship is 969.
Happy IT scholars were selected through a process involving document screening and evaluation by a selection committee composed of external experts, from among students who applied after seeing a separate announcement provided by the Korea Disabled Rehabilitation Association. The selection committee focused on evaluating the applicants' dreams, efforts for self-development, and career plans.
Kim Min-su (pseudonym, 20 years old), a university student selected as a Happy IT scholar, said, "Being chosen as a Happy IT scholar has given me an opportunity to reaffirm my goal of becoming an IT professional," adding, "I will study digital technologies such as AI and big data even harder to become an IT talent essential to our society."
