Open to Pure Amateur Enthusiasts Aged 60 and Over
A tennis tournament for pure amateur men and women aged 60 and over in the Seoul area was held, hosted by Dongyang Life Insurance.
On the 28th, Dongyang Life Insurance announced that as part of its healthcare services and to promote welfare for the elderly, it held the '2023 Seoul Senior Tennis Tournament' on the 25th. The Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Korea Senior Citizens Association also participated as sponsors.
The tournament, held at Jangchung Tennis Court in Jung-gu, Seoul, was open to pure amateur men and women aged 60 and over who reside or work in the Seoul area. A total of 128 participants, forming 64 doubles teams selected on a first-come, first-served basis, took part.
The competition proceeded with preliminary rounds followed by a main knockout tournament based on the preliminary results. The final winning team and the runner-up team were awarded prize money of 3 million KRW and 1 million KRW respectively. The ages of the winning team participants were 64 (born in 1960) and 61 (born in 1963). The oldest participant in the tournament was 76 years old (born in 1948).
Dongyang Life Insurance explained that in response to the aging trend, it recognized the importance of health management for the elderly and promoted this tournament to enhance the health and welfare of the senior population in the Seoul area.
Zhou Guodan, CEO of Dongyang Life Insurance, stated, "As a life insurance company, we acknowledge the social changes entering an aging society and will continue to provide products and healthcare services for the health and happiness of various customers. In particular, tennis is well known as an exercise that helps prevent Alzheimer's disease (dementia) and memory loss, so we will also offer various healthcare services based on tennis in the future."
