Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police Crack Down on Illegal Distribution of Edible Eggs

Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police Crack Down on Illegal Distribution of Edible Eggs Graphic Data on Illegal Distribution of Edible Eggs

Gyeonggi Province will conduct a focused crackdown on edible egg sales businesses.

The Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police for Public Welfare announced on the 28th that from the 3rd to the 14th of next month, they will intensively inspect 360 edible egg distribution and sales businesses (edible egg collection and sales, egg processing, edible egg sorting and packaging) within the province for illegal activities.

This crackdown is a measure following the mandatory expansion of the egg sorting and packaging distribution system from household use to commercial use, which has been in effect since January last year.

The egg sorting and packaging distribution system requires edible egg sorting and packaging businesses applying HACCP to sort, wash, dry, sterilize, inspect, and package eggs before distribution.

The main inspection items include ▲whether business location change permits are followed when changing the location of the business, sorting room, packaging room, and other major facilities ▲compliance with certification standard prerequisite management and safety management certification standards ▲whether business operators and employees comply with hygiene management requirements ▲acts of packaging, storing, or displaying prohibited edible eggs for sale.

The current 'Livestock Products Sanitation Control Act' stipulates that violations such as changing business locations without permission when major facilities are changed, and distribution acts involving prohibited sales of livestock products, are punishable by imprisonment of up to 10 years or fines up to 100 million won.

The provincial special judicial police plan to refer violators to the prosecution and request administrative sanctions from the relevant administrative agencies.

Hong Eun-gi, head of the Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police for Public Welfare, emphasized, "We will conduct a strong crackdown on the distribution and sale of illegal edible eggs to alleviate residents' concerns about livestock product safety and provide safe food."
