Geumcheon-gu Prepares 1,049 Pumps to Distribute to Residents in Flooded and Underground Homes
Distribution and Usage Explanation Visits to Each Home from April 3 to 21
On August 8 last year, over 1,000 households in Geumcheon-gu suffered flood damage due to unprecedented heavy rain in 100 years, causing great inconvenience.
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon) announced that it will distribute pumps (submersible pumps) to households in need before the rainy season this year to minimize flood damage.
To this end, Geumcheon-gu has prepared 1,049 pumps. It is conducting a survey targeting residents living in previously flooded or underground homes to ask if they wish to borrow a pump.
The survey is conducted based on past flooded home records through on-site visits, text messages, and phone calls to inquire about the desire to borrow pumps. Depending on the situation, sufficient pumps are placed at each neighborhood community center so residents can use them anytime they want.
From April 3 to 21, staff from the Geumcheon-gu Water Management Division and neighborhood community centers will visit each home to deliver pumps directly and provide detailed usage instructions during the visits.
Additionally, training on pump usage will be provided to community center staff and residents to prepare them to respond effectively in flood situations.
Mayor Yoo Sung-hoon stated, “Even if heavy rain like last year occurs again, we will thoroughly prepare flood prevention measures to ensure no damage to residents’ lives and property.”
