Agreement Ceremony Held on the Morning of the 27th, Utilizing Excellent Infrastructure
Accelerated Training of Semiconductor Specialists, 500 Graduates in 5 Years
Bachelor's and Master's Programs Completed in 5 Years
On the 27th, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced that, in collaboration with Samsung Electronics, it will establish semiconductor contract departments at three science and technology institutes: Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST), and Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST). Since a contract department (bachelor's level) has been operating at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in partnership with Samsung Electronics since November 2011, all four major science and technology institutes now have specialized semiconductor accelerated training programs.

To this end, the three science and technology institutes held a business agreement ceremony with Samsung Electronics on the same day and agreed to establish semiconductor contract departments. The program will be an integrated bachelor's and master's course, shortening the degree completion period from 6 years to 5 years. Students admitted will receive scholarships covering tuition and other expenses, and upon graduation, they will join Samsung Electronics.
The degree program will focus on the semiconductor process sector. The aim is to rapidly cultivate specialized personnel by utilizing the excellent research infrastructure of each science and technology institute. From 2024 to 2028, a total of 500 students will be trained, with 100 students enrolled each year over five years.
