Copyright Protection Agency Requests Policy Support from Thai Government
The Korea Copyright Protection Agency announced on the 27th that it attended the 'Intellectual Property Protection Conference' hosted by the Thai Department of Intellectual Property, together with the Copyright Overseas Promotion Association (COA), Kakao Entertainment, and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), to discuss measures for protecting K-content in Thailand.
The Intellectual Property Protection Conference is an event held biannually by the Thai Department of Intellectual Property under the Ministry of Commerce. It listens to and seeks solutions for intellectual property-related difficulties faced by major foreign companies operating in Thailand. Over 300 organizations participate, including intellectual property administrative agencies such as the Thai Department of Intellectual Property, the Intellectual Property Court, the Special Investigation Division of the Ministry of Justice, the Economic Crime Suppression Police, and Customs. A representative from the Copyright Protection Agency explained, "In a previous conference, Zepeto requested support for shutting down private servers, resulting in the closure of two illegal private servers."
This year, two main requests were made: △ policy support and practical cooperation to respond to online copyright infringement of K-content, and △ the establishment of a close communication channel with relevant Thai copyright protection agencies. Park Jeong-ryeol, head of the Copyright Protection Agency, stated, "We plan to do our best to strengthen the cooperative network with overseas related agencies to ensure the copyright protection of our K-content," adding, "We will actively provide the agency’s capabilities and know-how, such as illegal content tracking technology."
