Dexter Studio is entering the virtual production market by partnering with Thailand's comprehensive media group, Kantana. They have agreed to cooperate mutually to develop content production technology and pursue a broad market strategy.
Dexter Studio, a company specializing in visual effects (VFX) and content production, announced on the 27th that it has signed a business agreement to build a virtual production (VP) studio for Kantana Media Group. Dexter will also support Kantana Group in technical assistance and hardware system construction for establishing the virtual production studio. In the long term, they plan to discuss exchanges for the VFX business as well.
Dexter Studio opened its own virtual studio, D1, in 2021, applying a large LED wall through a collaboration with Lux Machina, a global virtual production solutions specialist, marking the first such partnership in Korea. In July, Dexter signed a four-party memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Epic Games, VIVE Studios, and Xon Studio to strategically enhance virtual production technology competitiveness and business capabilities.
Dexter Studio secured business infrastructure for the virtual production industry by signing separate business agreements with domestic PC hardware system specialist Emtek INC and LED screen specialist Impactrum. Currently, led by the VP headquarters, Dexter Studio operates teams focused on ▲advancing previsualization systems for cinematic projects such as commercial films and OTT content ▲creating virtual backgrounds using Unreal Engine ▲developing technology for ICVFX filming using virtual studios. They are producing various advertising contents and the upcoming domestic film "The Moon."
Lee Dong-jun, head of Dexter Studio’s VP headquarters, said, "Last month, Chairman Kaljaruk of Kantana and key executives visited our D1 studio in person and participated in a demonstration showcasing actual virtual production project content sources."
He added, "Based on trust, the two companies have established a successful partnership. We will focus on securing quality as our top priority to be recognized as the best in the world."
Dexter Studio plans to accelerate its overseas market expansion through close cooperation with Kantana. Kim Hye-jin, director of the Strategic Planning Office, introduced, "Kantana Group has long-standing expertise in content planning and technical production. It is an influential company boasting technical capabilities such as VFX, DI (Digital Intermediate), sound, subtitles, and dubbing for content from countries around the world including Singapore, India, China, Pakistan, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia." She explained, "This synergy across virtual production and overall video content production technology will also boost the expansion of overseas market areas."
Thailand’s media group Kantana, established in 1951, has established itself as a comprehensive entertainment company producing films, dramas, variety shows, animations, advertisements, and radio programs. It has expanded into various business fields including content production, services, education, and event management. Its affiliate, Kantana Animation Studio, won the Best Visual Effects award at the 30th Thailand Film Association Awards last year for the film "Lhong Rong."
