LG Electronics Conducts Academy to Nurture Gen Z ESG Talent

ESG University Student Academy 9th Cohort Launch Ceremony Held

LG Electronics has embarked on nurturing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) talents from Generation Z (those born between the mid-1990s and early 2000s) to create a 'Better Life for all.'

On the 27th, LG Electronics announced that it held the launch ceremony for the '9th ESG University Student Academy' at the LG Twin Towers in Yeouido, Seoul. The event was attended by 32 university students selected through a month-long document screening and in-depth interviews. The ESG University Student Academy is a program operated by LG Electronics since 2014 to instill ESG awareness in university students and nurture talents in the field. As of last year, over 270 students have completed this academy.

The selected students will receive systematic education and mentoring on ESG activities from ESG officers and external experts over the next five months. They will also undertake ESG activity projects they plan themselves while considering each area of Environment (E), Social (S), and Governance (G). Last year, members of the ESG University Student Academy proposed accessibility features for the elderly and visually impaired within the LG ThinQ app control functions, which actually improved user convenience.

LG Electronics will resume its global social contribution exploration program this year, which had been suspended since 2019 due to the spread of COVID-19. Additionally, participants with excellent grades will receive extra points in the document screening process when applying for new employee recruitment. Yoon Dae-sik, Executive Vice President and Head of External Cooperation at LG Electronics, said, “We will contribute to creating a sustainable future and a ‘Better Life for all’ by finding various ESG practice methods with Generation Z.”

LG Electronics is also actively communicating with Generation Z in the product and service sectors. An example is ‘LG Crew,’ which discovers new customer experience opportunities with the company. LG Crew plans to find good customer experiences across various lifestyle areas and reinterpret LG Electronics’ products and services from the perspective of Generation Z.

Meanwhile, LG Electronics established and has been operating the ESG mid- to long-term strategic task, the 'Better Life Plan 2030,' since last year to ensure that ESG management activities lead to tangible results. In the ESG evaluation conducted by the global ESG rating agency MSCI last year, LG Electronics received an A rating for three consecutive years, and it also received a comprehensive A rating in last year’s evaluation announced by the Korea ESG Standards Institute.
