Gyeonggi-do Semiconductor Workforce Development Center's New Name Confirmed as 'G-Spec' Gyeonggi Provincial Government Gwanggyo New Office Building

Gyeonggi Province has selected 'GSPEC' as the new name for the 'Gyeonggi Semiconductor Workforce Development Center,' which will be responsible for training semiconductor industry professionals within the province.


From the 22nd of last month to the 8th of this month, the province held a naming contest to promote the Gyeonggi Semiconductor Workforce Development Center and encourage public participation. A total of 833 entries were received. After two rounds of evaluation involving brand experts, the top prize was awarded to Kim Myung-jun's submission, 'Gyeonggi Semiconductor Professional Workforce Education Center (GSPEC),' the province announced on the 27th.


The acronym GSPEC, derived from the English name of the Gyeonggi Semiconductor Professional Workforce Education Center, preserves the original meaning of the 'Semiconductor Workforce Development Center' while symbolizing "a space in Gyeonggi Province (G) where young people build their semiconductor professional qualifications (SPEC)." This meaningful concept earned high marks.


Kim Hyun-dae, Director of the Future Growth Industry Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Through the contest, we were able to confirm the strong interest and affection for semiconductor workforce development within the province." He emphasized, "We will do our best to ensure that Gyeonggi Province always leads the mid- to long-term technological advancement of South Korea's semiconductor industry by nurturing semiconductor professionals."


The Gyeonggi Semiconductor Workforce Development Center plans to operate programs focused on practical technical workforce training tailored to the demands of small and medium-sized enterprises in semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment sectors, as well as programs to strengthen the capabilities of semiconductor educators.


Detailed educational content includes ▲ operation of education programs linking vocational high schools, universities, and companies ▲ capacity-building training courses for vocational high school teachers ▲ establishment of semiconductor practical training facilities, among others.
