The Ministry of Justice announced on the 26th that it will waive the application fees for extending the stay period until the end of the war for Koryo-saram compatriots who entered Korea to escape the Ukraine war.
As the Ukraine war prolongs, this measure was taken to support compatriots facing difficulties in their livelihoods. Accordingly, the Ministry of Justice expects that about 1,200 Koryo-saram compatriots who entered after the war will benefit from the fee waiver.
So far, the Ministry of Justice has simplified visa issuance procedures to support the entry of displaced compatriots and waived fees for changing residence status and work permits for compatriots, their spouses, and minor children. Short-term visa holders entering for less than 90 days were also allowed to change their status to long-term stay and permitted to work. Stateless Koryo-saram who entered with a travel document issued by Korea can extend their stay period even without a passport.
